The Shafter Youth Center (SYC) was established in December 2003, thanks to a $1.3 million grant from the California Youth Authority and a $249,000 match from the City of Shafter along with 1 acre of land to build the SYC. Each day, youth are empowered to live healthier lives through programs that focus on nutrition, recreation, education, and active healthy living.
SYC is located at 455 E. Euclid Avenue, Shafter, CA 93263.
Services are open to youth ages 6-18, free of charge, Monday thru Friday, 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. (School Days), and Monday thru Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Summer).

The words of cultural anthropologist Margaret Mead, who was honored posthumously with the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Jimmy Carter, serve as a motto for the Shafter Youth Center:
“The solution to adult problems tomorrow depends a large measure upon how our children grow up today.”
